BACARDI® Gold Rum, how delicioso thou art!  A perfect blend of vanilla and a balance of walnuts and spices on a subtle background of oak.  Ohhhh, how good my house smells when I am baking my “Butter Rum” cake with your wonderful, golden self!

Here’s our liquor history lesson for today:

Did you know we have Bacardi to thank for the world famous “Daiquri” cocktail? Yup, one of Barcardi’s mining engineers came up with in 1898.   Let us raise a glass to Jennings Stockton Cox!

And the “Mojito”?  It is based on the 16th century drink known as the “Draque”.  It was introduced by Richard Drake who served under Sir Francis Drake (no relation).   No one is sure where the name “Mojito” originated.  One school of thought is it comes from the Spanish verb “mojar”, meaning “to wet”, as in quenching the thirst in the Caribben heat.  I like that one!  Whatever the real story is, Bacardi Gold makes an incredible Butter Rum Cake!  Visit them at www.barcardi.com for more info on their terrific products.

Come see us at the Hillcrest Farmers Market on Saturday mornings for our fabulous rum and whiskey cakes.  This week’s whole cake and Baby Bundt flavors are:

Butter Rum

Glazed Key Lime Rum

Glazed Orange Rum

Chocolate Whiskey

Any one of them would be perfect for your Memorial Day gathering as you honor our country's service men and women.  Why bake when we’ve done it for you???  The address is: 2200 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock, Arkansas, in front of the Pulaski Heights Baptist Church.  See you there!

A safe and happy holiday weekend to all!
